Disguise

Far away ... in another time

is a sailing ship on a sea of wine

and a pocket book that's leather bound

filled with names of those that can't be found

all the crew are blind and cannot hear

yet the weather's fine for the time of year

Nothing stirs in the black lagoon

when the sun is hiding behind the moon

       soldiers fight and children sing

while lightning strikes and the rain pours in

the fire crew call with engines red

but you don't care you'll just stay in bed

The watchman calls as night goes by

she smiles a tear yet she doesn't cry

and while we sleep we wander through

a crowd of friends we never knew

then lights go down and suns arise

though breakfast holds a thin disguise

The evening climbs down with a bow

there's no one left to see me now

although at last the sirens sing

the doors will close they shan't come in

and when the morning sheds its light

the children say, at least we're right.
